Short answer: keep the SCOTUS seat open for 4 years.
How, generally: channel the GOP
Point out that the GOP argued that a POTUS, with one year left, should not have a SCOTUS pick because that POTUS, coming to the end of his term, lacks the larger legitimacy to make a lifetime appointment to the court.
Argue that, in accordance with GOP precedent, a POTUS needs legitimacy to make a lifetime SCOTUS pick. Therefore since
1) the 17 separate US intelligence agencies state unequivocally that Trump was elected with Russian help and
2) Trump lost the popular vote by 2.9 million votes
This president does not have the legitimacy to make a lifetime SCOTUS pic. Therefore this SCOTUS pick cannot and will not receive a hearing.
The democrats then simply, and en masse, do not attend judiciary committee meetings.
This, absent a recasting of Senate rules, prevents ratification of Gorsuch.
Finally, the Democrats state clearly that if a president of either party is elected without foreign meddling and with a majority of both the EC and popular votes, they will take-up and vote on that president's SCOTUS nominee.
The democrats, no matter the outcry, should not attend any committee meeting at which Gorsuch's nomination is to be debated.
Let the GOP own stealing the seat, and let them own the over-turning of Roe when the nation freaks-out. By not participating in this burlesque the democrats take away the "bipartisan" cover the GOP will want, and will need, in order to claim that Gorsuch was confirmed with bipartisan support. Take that way and the GOP owns, without cover, the retrograde decisions sure to flow from Roberts, Alito, Gorsuch et al, just those retrograde decisions that will infuriate the majority of the US population.
After McConnell's 8 years of obstruction now is not the time to play nice.
