That is the coin of the realm in politics...
I think most of the 'support' for Trump is more 'salute the rank, not the man'. Trump is bizarre, his tweets are annoying, so why the support?
Perhaps people who's support is lukewarm, come to his defense after those on the left call them 'Trumptards' (a devastatingly clever change from 'teatards' - don't you think?), make blanket assumptions about anyone who supports our President, and of course, any and all Republicans.
What is even more bizarre than Trump, is the notion, widely embraced on the left and the DNC- that if you can just insult people enough, if you can just have enough violent demonstrations, if you can stifle enough free speech on campuses, if you can show sufficient hatred of Police, if you can just advocate taking more fro them to give to illegal aliens, - you must be able to win their hearts and minds... Nancy Pelosi remains the dowager empress of the DNC, moderate voices in the Dem party have been overrun by the progs. and silenced.
People did not vote for Trump in nearly the numbers you think- they voted against what the Dems have become.
